I love the library!

I have to give a shout out to my co-worker, Laura, who turned me on to a unique service our local library offers.

You can request a book and have it shipped to your local branch of the library for a measley 25 cents. I'm even talking about brand new books.

I've already requested the new biography of Katie Couric, which is pretty gossipy, and another book that my friend Chris recommended called "What Remains." It's the story of a woman whose husband was best friends with John Kennedy Jr. and how she got through the deaths of JFK Jr. and his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, only to lose her husband to cancer three weeks later.

I haven't done much pleasure reading in the past few years, but I'm really starting to get back into it. I don't think I'm ready for a book club, but I'm getting there. :)

Top Dawg

This week, Brett is "Top Dawg" in his class.

You get to take home "Dawg," the class mascot over the weekend, and then on Monday you give a presentation about yourself using snapshots and answering various questions for the class such as "What's your favorite food?," "What is your favorite sport?," etc.

We will also need to write a short story about what Brett and Dawg did this weekend.

This should be good...

Homework for Casey

At parent/teacher conferences last week, we asked Casey's kindergarten teacher if she could send him home with some "homework" to give Casey something to challenge him. It will also help us keep him occupied while Brett does his own homework.

Tonight, as promised, she sent Casey home with a booklet of worksheets that he has to complete for a special prize.

He was so excited--I think he would have completed the whole thing tonight if I would have let him!

Soccer game

Tonight we had a make-up game to play. We played the Red Dragons and it was a much more evenly matched game then some of the others we've played.

We won; but the boys really wore themselves out.

K-State watch party

This afternoon, we all got together at Mike and Beckie's for a K-State watch party. (Even though I went to Rutgers, I wore my K-State T-shirt to show my solidarity.)

We were joined by Rick and Julie Carver and their sons, Jack and Scott; Mike's parents, Ken and Connie; and, of course, Captain Don and his crew.

Soccer game

This morning's soccer game went really well. I'm sure we won--but we don't really keep score.

I think this photo of Brett really sums him up; he may not score many goals but he always stays in the game and runs his little butt off!

Fun Friday

I took the day off today because the boys were out of school. We had a big day of fun, starting with a private tour of Cici's Pizzeria, with our friends, the Dillons.

We got to see how and where they make the pizza, then we each got to make our own.

After we finished lunch, we headed over to the Sedgwick County Zoo. We had a great time looking at all the animals.
